One to Buy: Spa Yellow Pearl 2002 Honda NSX-T 3.2
/ Ben Tyer
From September 1996, Honda began to equip the manual transmission version of its NSX with an enlarged 3.2-litre V6 engine. Most significantly, the power output went from 270bhp to 290bhp at an unchanged 7100rpm and there was considerably more torque on offer lower down the rev range (224lb-ft at 5300rpm compared to 210lb-ft at 6500rpm previously).
18 months earlier, the firm had expanded the NSX line up with a targa-topped NSX-T which (excluding the odd special edition) became the only variant offered in the United States.
More changes subsequently came on stream during 2002 when the NSX was given a facelift that included an entirely redesigned nose with revised intakes and covered Xenon HID lights.
At the same time, stiffer spring rates, a thicker rear anti-roll bar and a quicker steering rack were fitted along with bigger wheels, and new tyres. Inside, Honda made some subtle tweaks as well.
Unfortunately, owing to the availability of many much newer models, sales of the NSX had dropped to a trickle during the early 2000s making these best-of-breed iterations quite rare to find.
However, set to go under the hammer at Broad Arrow Auctions’ Las Vegas sale on October 31st is a particularly good example of the face-lifted manual gearbox NSX-T: chassis ‘000187’.
Configured in Spa Yellow Pearl with Onyx leather upholstery, it was first registered in Kansas during August 2002 and then changed hands two years later (in June 2004) with 17,000 miles recorded.
Since then, chassis ‘000187’ has resided in both Utah and Texas and is heading to auction with a little over 42,000 miles showing on the odometer. Modifications from standard include a set of after-market Bilstein dampers which have in turn provided a slightly lower ride height.
