One to Buy: 22,000km Flamenco Black Pearl 1998 Honda DC2 Integra Type R
Three years after a hardcore driver-focused NSX debuted and introduced the world to the now revered Type R moniker, Honda repeated the trick, but this time using a more attainable base model: the third generation Integra.
Initially offered exclusively as a Japanese Domestic Market special, the Integra Type R was built in two versions: either as a three-door DC2 or heavier five-door DB8.
The more desirable DC2 came riddled with high performance equipment to include a reinforced bodyshell, stiffer suspension, an uprated brake system, special wheels, a trick hand-built B18C engine, a close-ratio five-speed gearbox, a custom aero kit and a comprehensively stripped-out interior.
Journalists raved about what was widely regarded as the world’s best hot hatch and, such was the Integra Type R’s popularity, Honda eventually caved and offered both United States and Rest of World versions.
The company also went on to introduce a revised JDM iteration for the 1998 model year which most significantly came with bigger 16-inch wheels, even larger front discs, a higher final drive ratio, a new four-to-one exhaust manifold and the vented rear bumper that had been fitted to Rest of World variants since the 1997 model year.
Currently on offer at the Contempo Concept showroom in Kowloon, Hong Kong, is one of these extremely desirable 1998 model year JDM variants and a rare example finished in Flamenco Black Pearl.
Presented in totally original condition with a remarkable 22,300km on the odometer, this must be one of the finest first generation Integra Type Rs to exist.
