One to Buy: 700 miles from new 1989 Aston Martin V8 Volante V585

The final iteration of Aston Martin’s legendary non-Vantage V8 was introduced at the New York Motor Show in January 1986. It most notably marked a return to fuel-injection for the revamped V585 engine.

Thanks to the compact EFi system supplied by Weber-Marelli, these last-of-the-line variants were arguably the most handsome V8 Volantes of all with their more discrete power bulge and of course the cross-spoke BBS wheels that had been introduced back in late 1983.

Compared to the aggressive wide-arched and heavily spoilered open top Vantage, the standard late model Volante exuded an air of restrained style normally lacking in the more powerful range-topping variant.

Of the 215 units constructed between early 1986 and late 1989, just 44 were right-hand drive.

Set to go under the hammer at Bonhams’ Goodwood Revival sale on September 9th is perhaps the lowest mileage V585 Volante in existence.

Beautifully configured in British Racing Green with Dark Green-piped Fawn upholstery, Dark Green steering wheel, Dark Green dash top and a matching set of fitted luggage, chassis 15844 was ordered by its solitary owner in July 1986 with the requirement that it should be the last example off the production line.

Supplied three-and-a-half years later in November 1989, chassis 15844 was additionally optioned with the hugely desirable five-speed manual gearbox, a coin tray instead of an ashtray, a lockable centre armrest, a badge bar, sunken switches and a spare set of overmats.

Having covered under 700 miles from new and been recently serviced by marque specialist RS Williams, chassis 15844 is probably the finest V585 Volante in existence:
