History of chassis KLA12960

Chassis KLA12960 was one of the 67 right-hand drive examples of the Countach 25th Anniversary assembled between 1988 and 1990.

It was ordered by the Chairman of the Lamborghini Club UK, Peter Hay.

Hay’s family ran Norman Hay PLC, a global chemical, sealants, surface coatings and engineering group that supplied products and systems to the aerospace, automotive, oil, gas, mining and energy sectors.

KLA12960 was Peter Hay’s second Lamborghini; in 1971 he had received a brand new Miura SV as a 21st birthday gift (chassis 4816).

The Countach Anniversary joined Hay’s Miura at his home in Windlesham, Surrey. It was dispatched from the factory on March 23rd 1990 and arrived at the British Lamborghini distributor, Portman, a few days later (along with several other brand new Anniversaries).

Peter Hay configured his Countach in the handsome colour scheme of Argento with a Bleu interior. The car was attractively finished without a rear spoiler. The cockpit was upholstered with Grigio piping for the seats and (unusually) the sills. Elsewhere, the rest of the cockpit was blue apart from the upper dash (Nero) and the carpet (Grigio).

KLA12960 was originally registered G609 VYM. Over the next few years it was regularly seen at Lamborghini club events and track days.
