History of chassis DB5C/1505/R

Between July 1963 and September 1965, Aston Martin built 123 DB5 Convertibles.

Thanks to their handsome looks, outstanding performance and luxurious specification, they were regarded as the ultimate open British sports car of the day.

Chassis DB5C/1505/R was manufactured in 1964 and configured with the five-speed manual ZF gearbox.

It was purchased by Prince Michael of Kent, first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II and the grandson of King George V.

A noted auto enthusiast, Prince Michael later became President of the Royal Automobile Club, Motorsport UK and the Brooklands Museum Trust.

During the 1960s, he also owned a 4.2-litre Jaguar E-type FHC.

Prince Michael is depicted here attending the 1969 British Grand Prix at Silverstone for which he was given the usual police escort.

Prince Michael later acquired a Rolls Royce Phantom VI Limousine, a black Ford Escort RS Turbo (which matched that of Princess Diana) and an AC Cobra 289 Mk2 which was a gift from Prince Saud of Saudi Arabia.

His other Aston Martins included a V8 Vantage and V8 Vantage Volante to Prince of Wales specification.

A Virage Volante followed in the early 1990s.
