One to Buy: rare Bianco Polo Park 1981 Ferrari 512 BB

Three years after Ferrari’s first iteration of the BB theme had been launched in production-ready trim, the Italian firm replaced it with a significantly reworked variant: the 512 BB.

In addition to a much torquier engine which had been enlarged from 4.4 to 5-litres, the 512 BB’s body was modified to incorporate a chin spoiler, flared rear arches, extra cooling vents on the engine cover and a reworked rear apron that now shrouded the exhausts.

As had been the case for the 365 GT4 BB that it superseded, competitors for the 512 BB were few and far between. Lamborghini’s Countach LP400 and the later Countach S were just about the only rival offerings that could hold a candle to the BB while the Porsche 911 Turbo offered a very different driving and ownership experience.

In total, 929 examples of the 512 BB were produced between 1976 and ‘81, one of the best of which we have recently seen is residing at the Modena Motorsport showroom in Langenfeld, Germany.

Amid a sea of red Ferraris, chassis 35177 stands out for its spectacular Bianco Polo Park paint which the first owner combined with the BB’s trademark satin black lower body panels and matching black upholstery.

A late production example from 1981, chassis 35177 was originally delivered to a Dutch customer through Kroymans, since which time it has gone through the hands of just two further keepers, both of whom have obviously cherished the car. Now showing a little over 57,000km, chassis 35177 is being offered with a fully documented history fresh from a major cambelt service.
