One to Buy: Azzurro Monaco Met. 2009 Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione

Unlike most attempts at retro-themed automotive designs, Alfa Romeo’s spectacular 8C produced between 2007 and 2010 ranks among the most beautiful motor cars of the modern era.

Styled by Wolfgang Egger, this latest iteration of the 8C theme was inspired by several other exceedingly fine products to have worn the Alfa Romeo crest, most notably the Tipo 33 Stradale and Giulietta SZ Coda Tronca, both of which emerged during the 1960s.

Clothed in a carbonfibre body manufactured by ATR Group in Colonnella, the 8C remained satisfyingly true to Alfa’s original 2003 concept which emerged at the height of the craze for retro design.

Having been blessed with stunningly handsome lines, the fixed head 8C Competizione and drop head 8C Spider look outstandingly good in practically any livery. Unfortunately though, most customers played safe and opted for Alfa Romeo’s standard colour palette even though a Paint-to-Sample option was offered at additional cost.

Evidence of just how good the 8C could look with a little extra thought is a 2009 example currently residing at the Tomini Classics showroom in Al Barsha, Dubai. Configured in the rarely seen combination of Azzurro Monaco Metallizzato with Tan leather and alcantara upholstery, this beautifully specified 8C Competizione has covered a little over 23,000km and appears to be in immaculate condition throughout.
