One to Buy: 1 of 1 Cosmopolitan Yellow 2018 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Volante
/ Ben Tyer
Having displayed a Zagato-bodied Coupe based on the second generation Vanquish at the Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance in May 2016, Aston Martin went on to commission a production version in a choice of four alternative body styles.
Volante, Shooting Brake and Speedster variants were added to the original Coupe format shown at Villa d’Este; 99 of each type were built except for the Speedster of which a mere 28 emerged.
These limited edition Zagato-bodied masterpieces were based on the Vanquish S platform which featured an uprated version of the existing 5.9-litre Type AM29 V12 that now pumped out 595bhp at 7000rpm and 465lb-ft at 5500rpm. Transmission was through an eight-speed Touchtronic III gearbox.
Of the various Zagato-bodied Aston Martins put into production since the iconic DB4 GTZ was unveiled in late 1960, the limited run of Vanquish Volantes produced between 2017 and ‘18 was arguably the most handsome. It retained an array of the unusual features that typically characterised Zagato’s designs, but had a well proportioned elegance sometimes lacking in the vehicles that have emerged from Milan over the years.
Currently on offer at the Nichola Mee & Co. showroom in Hertfordshire is this superbly configured right-hand drive Zagato Volante that was commissioned in the unique colour scheme of Cosmopolitan Yellow over a Pure Black interior with Electron Yellow stitching.
First registered in 2018, it was number 59 of the 99 units built and, having covered just 221 miles, is presented in as new condition throughout.
