To celebrate Oscar Larrauri’s victory with a Michelotto-prepared 348 in the GT2 division of the 1993 Italian GT Championship, Ferrari produced a limited run of 50 high performance specials based on the 348 GTB.

Announced in December 1993, the resultant 348 GT Competizione was the last and ultimate road-going iteration of the 348. It featured an array of special parts to include 18-inch split-rim Speedline wheels, updated suspension geometry, a free-flow exhaust, carbon-Kevlar door assemblies and bumpers, F40-style racing seats with four-point Sabelt harnesses, thinner footwell carpet, carbon-Kevlar sill panel covers and a unique numbered steering wheel.

Only one colour scheme was offered: Rosso Corsa with Rosso seats and Nero carpet.

Of the 50 348 GT Competiziones constructed, just eight were right-hand drive, one of which is currently residing in DK Engineering’s Hertfordshire showroom.

This particular example was supplied through Ferrari main dealer JCT600 and registered to its first owner in February 1995. It was a frequent attendee at Ferrari Owners Club concours between 2005 and 2011 when the fourth owner contested around 70 competitions.

Today the car is showing around 53,000 miles and is offered in superb original condition having recently undergone a major service with JCT600.

Reprinted below is DK Engineering’s description for this rarely seen iteration of the handsome 348 Berlinetta:

  • 1 of just 50 Homologation Specials

  • 1 of 8 RHD

  • Price: £224,995

This example is #41 of 50 produced and is one of the eight right hand drive examples. Unique to the 348 GT Competizione is a piece of trim bespoke to each example; the steering wheel indicating the number out 50 examples produced. This example was supplied new to Mr Robson of Morpeth on 4th February 1995 through JCT600 Specialist cars. Mr Robson would keep the car for four years, passing to the second owner in 1999. The second owner would keep the car two years before trading it in to Graypaul Ferrari. The car would pass through Mr Ash, a number of records during his ownership are in the accompanying history file.

In 2005, the car was purchased by Nick Taylor, an experienced driver and well known in the Ferrari Owners Club of Great Britain. Taylor fielded this 348 GTC prominently and successfully between 2005 and 2011 at various Ferrari Owners Club hill climb events around the UK. From his ownership there is a wealth of documentation including his scrutineering certificates for circa 70 events entered. The car received meticulous maintenance throughout his ownership and the history file contains a wealth of records, invoices and services to this effect.

DK Engineering were proud to supply this car to the current owner back in 2020 where it has been cared for by a highly regarded collector of the marque and used sparingly. It has been regularly serviced by marque specialists including the major cambelt service. As such this example is ready to be used and enjoyed immediately, today showing 53,000 miles.

In June of this year, the car visited JCT600 Leeds for an annual service and check over. The rarest modern Ferrari, the 348 GT Competizione benefits enormously from its 200Kg diet, a naturally aspirated V8 mated to an open-gated manual gearbox. A true homologation special, this is one of just 8 right hand drive examples produced and whilst often forgotten it should not be underestimated.
