One to Buy: 1 of 33 built 1992 Ferrari 348 tb Serie Speciale
/ Ben Tyer
Unlike most other manufacturers, Ferrari was not often prone to a special edition during the 20th century. However, poor trading conditions around the early 1990s and a need to shift some more examples of the by now three-year old 348 resulted in a run of 100 Serie Speciales for the US market.
Produced between late 1992 and early 1993, the Serie Speciale came with leather-covered two-piece Kevlar sports seats from the US spec. F40, a new body coloured deep front spoiler, body coloured aprons, exposed tail lights, a chrome prancing horse emblem and wider rear track.
Installation of a sports exhaust liberated an additional 10bhp; 310bhp at 7200rpm made these the most powerful 348s yet.
Currently on offer at The Barn, Miami, is number three of the 100 Serie Speciales built: chassis 93191.
Configured in the most popular scheme from the period, Rosso Corsa with Crema leather upholstery, chassis 93191 is one of just 33 tb versions of the Serie Speciale, the remaining 67 having been built to targa-topped ts trim.
Said to have done well at recent concours, 93191 is offered with a fully documented history, a little under 37,000 miles on the odometer and a fresh belt service.
