One to Buy: 1 of 2 in Verde Scuro / Arancio 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4

Having already improved the spectacular 275 GTB by way of a more aerodynamic body and a torque tube coupling to eradicate alignment issues between the engine and driveshaft, Ferrari went on to unveil a dual overhead camshaft version at the Paris Motor Show in October 1966.

In addition to redesigned DOHC heads, the GTB/4’s 3.3-litre Tipo 226 V12 featured a new dry-sump lubrication system and an oil cooler located in front of the radiator (although this latter feature was later dropped).

Production continued until late 1968, by which time, 330 examples of the GTB/4 had been completed. While its replacement, the 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’, was even faster, the new car’s chiselled soft wedge profile market a significant departure in terms of design language.

As a consequence of its rarity, specification and gorgeous last-of-line styling, the 275 GTB/4 has come to be regarded as arguably the ultimate sixties Gran Turismo. Accordingly, values have soared to almost unimaginable heights and exceptional examples don’t often make it onto the open market.

However, currently available at the DK Engineering showroom in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire, is just such an example: chassis 9755 GT.

Completed in March 1967, 9755 GT was configured in the stunning colour combination of Verde Scuro with Arancio leather (one of just two examples completed as such). The car was supplied to its first owner, Perugian pasta magnate Marino Magnini, that May. Magnini retained his green 275 until August 1968, at which point it was sold to Giuseppe Zappala in Sicily. In 1972, Zappala sold chassis 9755 GT and it was exported to the USA.

More recently, this wonderful GTB/4 has been the subject of a major restoration to its original specification. It is today offered in concours condition complete with Ferrari Classiche certification.
