VIN: George Harrison's McLaren F1 chassis 025
History of chassis 025
Chassis 025 was a special order McLaren F1 built for George Harrison who was best known as a member of The Beatles.
Harrison was a big motor racing fan. Through time spent at the track he became a personal friend of McLaren F1 designer, Gordon Murray, and in 1992, purchased one of Murray’s first Light Car Company Rockets.
By this time, Harrison had owned around 20 high calibre exotics. In addition to multiple Porsches and Ferraris, there had been an Aston Martin DB5, Jaguar E-type, a fleet of Mercedes-Benz and a Radford Mini Cooper later customised with psychedelic Tantra art.
Harrison wholeheartedly embraced Indian culture and the bare chassis of 025 was littered with symbols of his Hindu faith as well as hand-written quotes and song lyrics applied in silver ink by Gordon Murray.
025’s bodywork was painted a unique Dark Purple Pearl and Harrison took the unusual step of requesting satin black wheels.
Chassis 025 was registered M7 AUM in January 1995.
In June 1995, the car was displayed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The English hillclimb took place the weekend after McLaren’s famous win at the Le Mans 24 Hours and 025 was on show as part of the victory corral.
Following George Harrison’s death in November 2001, chassis 025 remained part of his estate for the next 20 years.
