One to Buy: 13,000 mile 2015 McLaren 650S Le Mans

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of McLaren’s 1995 victory at Le Mans, the first debut win by a manufacturer at la Sarthe since 1949 and the first by a production-based car since 1979, the firm released a special edition of its critically acclaimed 650S.

Announced in January 2015, the 650S Le Mans was created by McLaren Special Operations in collaboration with F1 road car designer, Peter Stevens. Inspired by the race-winning Ueno Clinic-backed F1 GTR chassis 01R, 50 copies of the 650S Le Mans were assembled, all of which were configured as Coupes.

The long list of equipment fitted to the 650S Le Mans included a roof-mounted snorkel, vented front fenders, extended door blades, deep side skirts and a distinctive rear diffuser, all sourced from the McLaren Special Operations catalogue. Exposed carbonfibre was used extensively. A unique set of Le Mans edition F1 GTR-style lightweight wheels were shod with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres.

Carbon ceramic brakes came fitted as standard along with calipers painted McLaren Orange to match the Le Mans script added along the trailing edge of each skirt. This splash of orange contrasted against metallic Sarthe Grey paint that mimicked the ‘95 Le Mans winner.

Inside, each car was automatically trimmed in a mixture of black leather and alcantara with the Sports seats receiving a McLaren Orange alcantara inlay and Le Mans script embossed onto the headrests. A similar script also adorned the floor mats and a dedication plate was added to each door card. Parking sensors, a Meridian Surround Sound stereo and axle lifting system were included too.

While 650S Le Mans customers could opt for a bespoke colour combination if they wished, most buyers opted for the handsome Sarthe Grey with McLaren Orange highlights as depicted on this superb right-hand drive example currently on offer at the Furlonger Specialist Cars showroom in Ashford, Kent.

The car, which won its class at the Salon Prive Concours in 2021, has covered a little under 13,000 miles and will be supplied with a fresh comprehensive service.
