Following the original 12C’s evolution to 650S trim, McLaren released the most exciting iteration of what was dubbed their ‘Super Series’ line when the 675LT was announced in early 2017 (and which then publicly debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March).
Underneath its significantly revised high downforce long tail bodywork (hence the LT moniker), the new car was both lighter and stiffer. The suspension, brakes and wheels were also enhanced while in the engine by was a torquier, more powerful variant of the existing twin turbocharged 3.8-litre V8. This tricked out motor was in turn hooked up to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission with 40% quicker shift times.
In addition to the limited run of 500 675LT Coupes, McLaren subsequently announced a similar number of Spiders would be constructed, all of which were quickly sold. A little later, two further batches of 25 cars each known as the 675LT Spider Carbon Series and 675LT Coupe MSO HS were also produced.
Famously, through McLaren’s Special Operations department, the British firm offered its customers a practically limitless degree of customisation, albeit at not insignificant cost.
Of the small number of truly unique 675LT Coupes to emerge, one particularly impressive example is set to go under the hammer at Bonhams’ Quail Auction in California on August 15th.
Chassis ‘171’ was a one-off commission inspired by McLaren’s Marlboro-backed Formula 1 cars from 1974 to 1996. Finished in stunning two-tone Delta Red and Silica White (at a cost of over $56,000), ‘171’s interior was kitted out in a mix of Carbon Black leather and Alcantara interior.
Ordered through McLaren Philadelphia and delivered in 2016, this fabulous modern era McLaren is being offered with a little over 3000 miles on the odometer.
