VIN: the Patrick Collection Aston Martin V8 Vantage Zagato chassis 20028
History of chassis 20028
Chassis 20028 was one of 50 V8 Vantage production cars built with Zagato bodywork between 1986 and 1988. Of these, 29 were right-hand drive and two were Fury Yellow with a black interior.
This car was supplied new to the Patrick Collection in February 1987.
The Patrick Collection was a motor museum opened in the mid 1980s by Alexander Patrick.
Patrick’s father, Joseph, had established the Patrick Motors Group (PMG) which owned automotive dealerships, parts suppliers and petrol stations around the UK.
When Joseph Patrick died in 1982, it was decided to make a gradual withdrawal from the motor trade.
The last retail location for PMG, Mercedes-Benz Patrick Solihull, was sold in 1999.
The Patrick Collection’s purpose-built museum was located in Kings Norton just outside Birmingham. It housed Joseph Patrick’s personal collection which he had built up since 1960 and also an impressive display of modern supercars purchased after his death.
By the late 1980s, the Patrick Collection was home to nearly 250 cars.
Chassis 20028 was registered 610 VZ on March 5th 1987.
Later in the year, it was driven at Donington by Stirling Moss as part of a four-car track test for Motor magazine. 20028 appeared on the cover of the November 7th 1987 edition along with a Lamborghini Countach Quattrovalvole, Ferrari Testarossa and Porsche 930 Flachbau.
In 1989, the Patrick Collection also purchased a Malvern Brown Zagato Volante (chassis 30022).
Unfortunately, the museum never turned a profit and, in 1994, Bonhams (then Brooks) sold off the first cache of cars including chassis 20028.
In 1995, the yellow Zagato was the subject of accident damage and was returned to Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. for a comprehensive repair.
Bonhams then sold the car to its third owner in 2004 by which time chassis 20028 had covered 6100 miles.
