One to Buy: 37km from new 2018 McLaren Senna
/ Ben Tyer
After an online reveal in December 2017, McLaren presented the third iteration of their Ultimate Series at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2018.
Dubbed the Senna in honour of arguably the greatest driver to ever race for McLaren, this latest machine was the company’s most track-focused road car since the mid nineties F1 LM.
Based on the 720S, albeit heavily modified in every respect, the Senna was built in a limited run of 500 cars, all of which were pre-sold soon after the model’s announcement.
Below the wild-looking body with its super aggressive aero kit was a carbonfibre MonoCage III tub and a twin turbocharged 789bhp V8 engine hooked up to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Suspension was via double wishbones with hydraulically-activated dampers and brakes were the latest generation carbon ceramics from Brembo with six-piston monobloc calipers.
Currently on offer with Belgian broker RMD is this 2018 Senna located in Monaco albeit with all EEC taxes and duties paid.
Number 27th of the 500 examples built, it was configured by its first and current owner in a rarely seen colour scheme that paid homage to the Fina-backed BMW Motorsport F1 GTRs of 1996 and 1997.
Back then, BMW wanted to take on domestic rivals Porsche and Mercedes-Benz who had created new GT1 cars from scratch. The 1996 campaign was handled by Bigazzi while Schnitzer were brought in for 1997.
Having covered just 37km from new, chassis 027 is presented in as new condition. It is one of just three Sennas commissioned with the historic Fina-inspired livery which was a special MSO option.
