One to Buy: 1 of 1 with 30 miles from new 2020 McLaren Speedtail

Although the flagship P1 of 2012 to 2015 was in many respects McLaren’s modern interpretation of the legendary 1990s F1, the new model’s conventional two-seat layout and much greater production run meant it lacked some of the original car’s magic.

The Senna that followed in late 2017 was an even higher volume offering with another two-seat cockpit and styling that greatly divided opinion.

However, one year later, McLaren revealed what they dubbed their first Hyper-GT and first three-seat creation since the F1: the Speedtail.

Constructed in a limited run of 106 units (as per the F1), the Speedtail was built around a state-of-the-art carbonfibre monocoque and twin turbocharged 1040bhp hybrid V8.

In addition to its advanced specification and handsome looks, the Speedtail offered buyers extraordinary levels of customisation. As a result, it seems likely that no two cars were completed to an identical specification.

The configuration of this particular Speedtail, currently on offer at the DK Engineering showroom in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire, was inspired by a famous British Ferrari of the 1960s.

That car was 250 GT SWB Competizione chassis 2009 GT delivered new to British privateer, Graham Whitehead. Whitehead ordered his car in a handsome light metallic blue colour scheme and then raced it throughout 1960 and 1961 to include appearances at Le Mans, Goodwood, Montlhery, Spa, Rouen and Silverstone.

In addition to an array of MSO options, the buyer of DK Engineering’s Speedtail (who also owns an original McLaren F1) also specified bespoke orange aniline leather upholstery.

Delivered new in July 2020, this one owner machine has been kept at DK Engineering’s storage facility and is offered with circa 30 miles on the odometer.
