The mid 2010s saw Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche engage in a three-way battle for supremacy with a trio of limited edition flagship modes that set new performance standards.

Compared to the Ferrari LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren’s P1 stood out on account of its avante-garde cutaway styling and state-of-the-art active aero that maximised downforce, reduced drag and enabled unprecedented chassis adjustability.

Conceived as a modern day replacement for the legendary McLaren F1, the P1 was similarly based around a carbonfibre monocoque into which was dropped a twin turbocharged 3.8-litre 903bhp hybrid V8 and seven-speed dual clutch paddle shift transmission.

Just 375 examples of the P1 were built between 2013 and 2015, all of which were sold over the space of a few weeks.

As if the standard P1 were not special enough, McLaren also created a quintet of Carbon Series variants that retailed at a substantial but undisclosed premium.

Most notably, these five XP Experimental Prototypes came with stunning high gloss exposed carbonfibre bodies. Each was rebuilt by McLaren Special Operations between 2015 and 2016.

Currently on offer at Al Ain Class Motors in Dubai is this 0km Carbon Series from 2015. Configured with red accents to the front splitter, running boards, diffuser, spoiler pylons and exterior mirrors, it also features red brake calipers, red Carbon Series script down each flank and on the rear spoiler and satin black wheels with red inlays.

Inside, the cockpit is a mix of matt exposed carbonfibre and dark grey quilted alcantara with red stitching.
