VIN: Jay Kay's second Lamborghini Diablo SE30 chassis RLA12142
History of chassis RLA12142
Chassis RLA12142 was the 142nd Diablo SE30 and one of 18 right-hand drive examples produced.
Like most SE30s, it was finished in Viola Metallic with a Blue alcantara interior.
First registered N933 AJH in April 1996, RLA12142 was the second SE30 purchased by Jay Kay, the lead singer / songwriter for Jamiroquai.
After the release of Jamiroquai’s first single, Kay signed an eight-album deal with Sony Music subsidiary Sony Soho. Over the next few years, Jamiroquai became one of the best-selling funk bands of all time.
Jay Kay’s first SE30 was famously destroyed on Kings Road in central London shortly before it was scheduled to be trucked out to the Cabo de Gata for the Cosmic Girl video shoot; against strict instructions, Kay’s friend that was tasked with moving the car took it on a joyride.
Another Viola Metallic SE30 had to be sourced at short notice for the video instead.
RLA12142 was later registered N222 LAM. It wore this plate when it was used for a head-to-head test by Top Gear against a Bugatti EB110 GT.
Jay Kay sold the SE30 through Lamborghini GB in 1998, by which time it had covered around 5000 miles (as depicted here).
The Diablo subsequently went through the hands of several UK owners prior to its acquisition by a Mexican collector in November 2018.
