History of chassis 2841 SA

Chassis 2841 SA was one of 14 Pininfarina-bodied Series 1 400 Superamericas built with Coupe Aerodunamico bodywork.

Of these, half came with headlights mounted behind glass covers. The other half had exposed headlights positioned further forward on the front fenders and a wider primary grille aperture (to which a pair of fog lights were normally inset). The open headlight design also used a full width front bumper instead of the quarter bumpers seen on covered headlight examples.

Numerically the second of the seven exposed headlight derivatives, chassis 2841 SA was dispatched to Pininfarina for coachwork on August 4th 1961.

It was completed a few weeks later in the stunning colour scheme of Grigio Fumo with Rosso upholstery.

The handsomely configured car subsequently went on to star at the Paris Motor Show which took place between October 5th and 15th.

2841 SA’s first private owner was Count Herbert Fritz Somsky of Geneva. It is believed to have been his third Ferrari after a 1954 250 Europa (chassis 0331 EU) and a 1956 410 Superamerica (0471 SA) both of which were also painted grey.

Precisely how long Count Somsky retained 2841 SA is unclear. However, by the early 1970s the car had found its way to California and, by the 1980s, it had joined the noted collection of TV producer Greg Garrison in Thousand Oaks, California.

Garrison retained 2841 SA until the late 1990s.
