History of chassis LM3

Chassis LM3 was one of six McLaren F1 LMs built (a prototype and five customer cars). The LM was created to celebrate McLaren’s victory at the 1995 Le Mans 24 Hours (where F1 GTRs finished first, third, fourth, fifth and 13th) but more importantly to homologate a series of updates for the 1996 racing season.

LM3 was sold to renowned Ferrari collector and existing F1 owner, David Morrison.

At the time, Surrey-based Morrison was the Chief International Economist and Co-Head of Investment Research at Goldman Sachs whom he had joined in 1986. Prior to this, Morrison had worked for the Bank of England, Phillips & Drew and Simon & Coates.

Morrison fleet of Ferraris included a 250 GTO and he was an enthusiastic amateur driver having raced in the Pirelli Maranello Challenge. During 1994, Morrison had established Parabolica Motorsport, the team that would most famously campaign an F1 GTR Long Tail throughout 1997 (chassis 27R).

David Morrison took delivery of chassis LM3 on August 12th 1996 by which time the car had been pre-registered on the private plate 1 SEN.

In 1999, Morrison drove LM3 in the first Gumball 3000 rally which comprised a loop from London, down to Rimini and back again.

During 2003, David Morrison sold chassis LM3 to American IT consultant and serial F1 owner, Frank Selldorff.

In 2004, LM3 joined the significant collection of New Jersey-based fashion designer Ralph Lauren with whom it has resided ever since.
