History of chassis 91283

Chassis 91283 was a 1992 F40 purchased by the Brunei royal family.

The proceeds of Brunei’s natural gas and oil reserves enabled the Sultan of Brunei and his brother, Prince Jefri, to purchase arguably the most extravagant fleet of prestige and exotic motor cars ever assembled.

In addition to off-the-shelf models, the Brunei royals commissioned a large number of uniquely appointed vehicles.

Chassis 91283 was one of seven ‘standard’ F40s customised for the Brunei collection by Pininfarina. A uniquely specified F40 LM was also delivered.

Pininfarina converted 91283 to right-hand drive and fitted a special interior.

The dash, door panels, transmission tunnel, sills and rear bulkhead panel were upholstered in leather. Matching Testarossa seats were installed and a modified centre console was fitted complete with controls for a new air-conditioning system. Grey hide and carpet was used to complement the Gunmetal exterior which also featured a red swage line.

The Brunei royals had similar F40 conversions carried out in silver, dark green, yellow, white, black and red.

Once landed in Brunei, chassis 91283 was registered BM8383.

In 2002, the car was purchased direct from Brunei by John Collins of Talacrest, Egham.

Later, 91283 was repainted red. F40 LM seats were fitted and the interior was converted to otherwise standard specification.

More recently, the car has been returned to its Gunmetal colour scheme.
