One to Buy: 2300km 1992 Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione Martini 6
/ Ben Tyer
Of the myriad Delta Integrale special editions offered during the first half of the 1990s, perhaps the most famous are the Martini variants that mimicked Lancia’s works cars piloted to such great success by the likes of Juha Kankkunen and Miki Biasion.
First of these to arrive was the Evoluzione 1-based Martini 5 launched in January 1992. Created to celebrate Lancia’s fifth consecutive Manufacturers’ title in the World Rally Championship, the Martini 5 was duly followed by a Martini 6 after the firm bagged its sixth straight title at the end of the ‘92 season.
The Martini 6 was the last Evoluzione 1-based special edition to emerge. 310 units were built, all of which were completed to an identical specification.
Externally, the Martini 6 came with Bianco paint, matching wheels, an elaborate Martini decal kit and special badging. Inside, high-backed HF-embossed Recaro front seats were fitted along with red seatbelts, a carbonfibre gear surround and a numbered plaque on the centre console. Upholstery was light blue alcantara with red stitching.
Going under the hammer at Broad Arrow Auctions’ Villa d’Este sale on May 17th is one of the best preserved, lowest mileage examples of Martini 6 to exist: chassis ZLA831AB000580741.
Number 234 of the 310 examples built, this car was originally delivered to a customer in Catania, Sicily. Said to be in like-new condition throughout, at the time of cataloguing number 234 was showing just 2367km.
Broad Arrow describe this Martini 6 as having “flawless original paint and colour-matched wheels shod in their original Michelin MXX tyres. Similarly unmarked interior surfaces retain their pre-delivery cellophane to protect the carpets, seats and door cards. A spotless undercarriage and engine compartment feature numerous factory markings still in place”.
Purchased by the consignor in 2022 and having most recently received a timing belt service in 2024, number 234 comes with two keys, its tool roll, the original still-boxed Clarion head unit and a complete array of factory paperwork to include the owner's manual, service and warranty booklet, use and maintenance booklet and “Scudo Lancia” booklet.
