One to Buy: 1 of 1 BP Green 2023 Ferrari SP3 Daytona

Although Pininfarina’s approach to automotive styling had generally focused on conservative elegance, the Turin design house did begin to develop an array of increasingly radical creations as the Wedge era dawned.

One of the firm’s most famous design concepts from this era was the 250 P5 which broke cover at the Geneva Salon in March 1968. Based on a Dino 206 S racing chassis ostensibly fitted with an F1-derived 390bhp V12 engine, with its other worldly look the P5 caused a sensation on the international show circuit.

Nearly 54 years later, Ferrari unveiled a limited edition model that combined elements of the P5 with two other renowned models from the past: the 330 P4 and 412 P Group 6 Prototypes that famously finished first, second and third at the Daytona 24 Hours in February 1967.

Dubbed Daytona SP3, this super high end product from Ferrari’s Icona series was unveiled at the Mugello Finali Mondiali event in November 2021. With production limited to 599 units, the entire SP3 run was pre-sold with all existing Icona customers having reputedly elected to take up the offer.

The first customer cars began to emerge in 2022 and so far, just a handful of SP3 Daytonas have come onto the open market. One of these, a uniquely configured example with just a little over 600km on the odometer, can currently be found residing at the F1rst Motors showroom in Al Quoz, Dubai.

Finished in the same BP Green as privateer David Piper’s 412 P (chassis 0854), prior to delivery this one-of-one SP3 Daytona was signed in gold on the engine cover by Ferrari’s 2023 F1 driver pairing, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
