History of chassis M3/1107

Chassis M3/1107 was the last of seven Mk3 GT40s constructed and one of two built in 1969.

Famously, only three of the seven Mk3s were purchased by private buyers. The other four were retained by Ford’s US and UK divisions with one example remaining in the possession of John Wyer Automotive Engineering (who had developed the car on Ford’s behalf).

M3/1107 was the Mk3 kept by Ford in the UK.

One of three right-hand drive Mk3s built, it was uniquely configured in Silver Metallic with a Black leather interior. Ford registered the car on June 27th 1969 at which point it was issued the licence plate DWC 8G.

During its early life, M3/1107 spent much time on promotional duty and was displayed at several Ford dealers around Great Britain. In October 1971 it appeared at the London Motor Show.

The car subsequently spent much of its life at Ford in Swansea and was later loaned to the Donington Collection.

By the late 2000s, M3/1107 had been re-painted white with dark blue side stripes and continued to be seen at many pomotional events. It was then re-painted red and starred at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show alongside the latest Ford GT.

More recently, M3/1107 has been restored back to its original colour scheme.
