History of chassis 008R

Chassis 008R was one of 24 Porsche 911 Rs built.

15 of these were destined for customers. The other nine were retained by Porsche for testing and competition use.

Like most of the 911 Rs, 008R was painted Light Ivory and accessorised with black Porsche side script. It was assembled in late 1967 and dispatched to the official Porsche distributor for Japan: Mitsuwa Motor Co. Ltd. in Tokyo.

During its time in Japan, 008R is believed to have been used purely as a road car and was never raced, rallied or hillclimbed.

At some stage during this period, the car was reputedly damaged by a fire.

It was later returned to Europe by Manfred Freisinger before heading to the USA where it was restored.
