One to Buy: ex-Jack Tordoff Forest Green Metallic 1990 Porsche 911 3.2 Speedster
/ Ben Tyer
The late 1980s collector car boom saw an explosion of interest in low volume specials from prestigious marques as investors piled into what was considered a new asset class following the stock market crash of late 1987.
One of the marques to capitalise was Porsche who revived the Speedster moniker after an absence of 30 years. Created as a run-out model for the soon-to-be-replaced 3.2-litre 911 Carrera, the Speedster could be ordered in conventional narrow-bodied trim or the wider Turbo-bodied format. The latter ultimately proved easily most popular by a ratio of nearly 20:1.
In a red hot market, Porsche slightly exceeded their original sales target of 2000 Speedsters, all of which were produced between January and September of 1989.
Certainly one of the nicest Speedsters we have seen here at Supercar BNstalgia is currently on the market with The Hairpin Company in Compton Bassett, Wiltshire.
Ordered new by JCT600 owner and noted privateer, Jack Tordoff, this late model Speedster was configured in the spectacular colour scheme of Forest Green Metallic with body coloured wheel centres, Linen leather upholstery, Charcoal piping and Sage carpet.
Jack Tordoff kept the unregistered green Speedster on display at JCT600 until late 1990 and the next owner in turn kept it until 2009. He took the mileage to 5600 and returned it to JCT600 every year for an annual service. The car’s mileage has since increased to just 8000 and it remains in fantastic unrestored condition throughout.
