One to Buy: 7000 mile Silver over Can Can Red 1989 Porsche 911 3.2 Speedster (SOLD)
Of all the series production G bodied 911s built between late 1973 and the summer of 1989, arguably the most sought after is the 3.2 Speedster.
Launched in its final form at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1988, the first customer Speedsters began to roll out of Porsche’s factory in January 1989. Nine months later, the final example emerged as Porsche discontinued the G body 911 in favour of the heavily revised 964.
Despite the Speedster’s relatively brief lifespan and somewhat impractical specification (it was supplied with a flimsy canvas roof designed for emergency use only), Porsche ultimately sold a little over 2000 examples thanks to a surge in demand for low volume specials from high end manufacturers during the late 1980s.
In a typical reflection of the period, most 911 3.2 Speedsters were finished in the ubiquitous reds, whites and blacks that came to define the 1980s. However, one of the most handsome configurations for these last-of-type G body 911s is traditional Silver Metallic which arguably flatters the Speedster’s Tony Lapine-designed lines better than any other shade.
One such car, chassis WP0ZZZ91ZKS151373, is currently on offer with Tom Hartley Jnr. in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire. Configured with spectacular but rarely seen Can Can red upholstery, this right-hand drive UK market Turbo-bodied example has covered less than 7000 miles from new in the hands of just two owners, during which time it has been serviced exclusively by official Porsche main dealers.
Presented in a condition said to be indistinguishable from new, chassis ‘151373’ is almost certainly one of the best right-hand drive 911 3.2 Speedsters in existence.
Reprinted below is Tom Hartley Jnr.’s description:
1 of only 64 UK right-hand drive 911 (930) Speedsters ever produced. Finished in the stunning and rare colour combination of Silver Metallic over Can Can Red leather interior.
Only 6,993 miles and 2 owners from new. Our Speedster benefits from documented history that’s better than any other example we’ve ever handled or seen in the past. Always maintained throughout its life without regard to cost by either Lancaster Bow or most recently Porsche Centre Solihull.
Complete with its original leather pouch, handbooks which include the original service/warranty supplement, its 3 sets of keys (including original dealer keyrings), tool roll, tyre inflator kit and original Porsche cleaning kit; as given to all the first owners.
The car’s fantastic history file includes: the original order form, letters from the supplying dealer before the car even went into production, the original delivery note, old V5 registration documents, 25 MOTs, 26 old style tax discs plus an array of maintenance invoices.
Totally indistinguishable from new throughout and fresh from a recent service. This is no normal example, it must be one of the finest in existence and extremely collectible.
