One to Buy: 25,000km Nero Met. 1991 De Tomaso Pantera SI

In the midst of a booming collector car market, De Tomaso must have been pretty confident that its final iteration of the long-running Pantera, the SI, would be a commercial hit on its Turin Motor Show debut in April 1990.

Unfortunately though, within weeks of the new model’s premiere, things had begin to change. Having peaked during the summer of 1990, the market for high end motors began to nosedive as most major economies span into multi-year recession. De Tomaso’s expectation that it could shift a couple hundred copies of the Pantera SI every year was slashed and ultimately, just 41 were built by the time production came to an end in 1994.

With so few copies made, the opportunity to acquire a low mileage Pantera SI in a subtle colour scheme comes around only occasionally. However, just such an example will be going under the hammer at Broad Arrow Auctions’ Zurich sale on November 7th.

Configured in the handsome combination of Nero Metallizzato with Grigio leather upholstery, chassis ZDT874000MA009612 was dispatched from De Tomaso’s factory in Modena during February 1991 from where it headed to Sport Cars GmbH of Stuttgart and was subsequently registered on April 9th.

According to Broad Arrow Auctions: “The Pantera passed to a Mr. Till of Berlin in 1995 and remained within his family for nearly two decades, undergoing a thorough restoration in the early 2000s, before Till's heir sold the car into its current ownership in May 2014. It has remained registered in Germany since and is offered with a substantial history file, including original purchase paperwork, service records, and factory documentation.”

Most recently serviced by M&R Automobile in April 2026, chassis ‘9612’ had covered just 24,902km at the time of cataloguing and looks to be in superb condition throughout.
