History of chassis 4301033

Chassis 1033 was the 14th M1 Procar produced.

It was purchased by BMW Nederland and dispatched on May 9th 1979.

The car would be campaigned by BMW Nederland’s in-house competition department, Alimpo Sport. In recent times, Alimpo had most famously campaigned CSL and 2002 touring cars at international level.

Backing for the 1979 season was secured from F&S Properties. The originally plain white car was accessorised with thick diagonal red and blue stripes. It would be driven exclusively by Toine Hezemans under race number 99.

Hezemans had successfully raced CSLs and Porsche 935s for many years. Perhaps most famously, in 1973, he took his second European Touring Car Championship crown driving for BMW Motorsport.

The Dutchman finished every race that season. His single podium visit was for second overall in the season-opener at Zolder. Hezemans had five top-six finishes in total and only once came home outside the top ten. At the end of the season he was classified fifth in the championship with 44 points.

Niki Lauda was champion on 78 points, Hans-Joachim Stuck was second on 73 and Clay Regazzoni finished third on 61. Markus Hottinger finished one point ahead of Hezemans with 45 points to take fourth in the standings.

For 1980, BMW Nederland employed a new man behind the wheel - up-and-coming Dutch F1 driver, Jan Lammers.

Lammers won the opening Procar race of 1980 (at Donington). In the subsequent three events he took a brace of seconds (at Avus and the Norisring) and posted a DNF at Monaco.

Although he only went on to score one more top five finish in the second half of the season, Lammers claimed fourth in the end-of-year standings. He tallied up 69 points compared to 90 for Nelson Piquet, 77 for Alan Jones and 71 for Hans-Joachim Stuck.

Thereafter, chassis 4301033 was retired from competition duty.
