HISTORY OF CHASSIS 001
Chassis 001 was the first Yamaha OX99-11 completed.
Three cars were built in total with chassis numbers 001, 003 and 007. Assembly took place at International Auto Design (IAD) with fine tuning undertaken by Ypsilon Technology.
Chassis 001 was painted red and all three prototypes were registered for road use on the same day: August 11th 1992. They were issued consecutive number plates: K1 OXY, K2 OXY and K3 OXY.
Chassis 001 wore K2 OXY and was the car most commonly seen in the press at the time. It served as a promotional mule and was followed by 003 (painted green, another test car) and 007 (painted black, a presentation car).
However, Yamaha pulled the plug on cost grounds in early 1993 and all three cars were sent out to Japan.
